Historical Background

Historical Background

Very Positive Outlook, Inc. was founded on Christian principles by Valerie Peterson Owens in April 2004, in Saginaw, Michigan, to provide a resource tool for educational programs, family services agencies, churches and other businesses who are trying to get male parents move involved in their programs and more specifically with their children’s academic growth.  This is accomplished through a series of workshops entitled, Male Manners, Reading with Dads and the Family Reading Workshops, which focuses on building a reading, writing, and better relationship within the family.

To accomplish this, a series of classes have been designed

specifically to help men become better fathers, step-fathers, husbands and citizens in the communities in which they reside.

Because time is the most valuable commodity that any of us have, our book series entitled “Where’s my Daddy?” is one of the tools used to depict ways that men can spend time teaching, reaching, playing and volunteering with their children or other boys and girls who need male mentors.  These services are also available to young men in juvenile correctional facilities who need to be uplifted and encouraged as well as adult men who are apart of the penal system who want to stay connected to their children while serving their time; as well as those re-entering society.

I am honored to acknowledge the heartfelt and creative expressions in this book. Reflections is a true reflection of Valerie, as an amazing parent, school volunteer and natural leader. Her service to our school and our district has made an incredible difference, just as Reflections will in the lives of those who read it and write their stories.
